My dad%26#039;s car lease is going to be up in a few months I believe very strongly in global warming and want to... Reduce my families carbon footprint (and saving a little money on gas wouldn’t hurt either) Heres the deal my dad Looked around and said It’s not worth it to buy a hybrid since the hybrids are generally more expensive then their regular gasoline counterparts. He also said that since it’s so much more it wouldn’t pay to get a hybrid since the gas payoff wouldn’t exceed the difference between the hybrid and the normal car until he had to return the car. Any ideas? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jh... 50% 2 Votes

  • Buy American. A couple suggestions: the new Tahoe Hybrid, Ford Focus, Fusion, or Escape, Saturns are good cars too. Regardless of what your feelings are toward the temperature of the planet, buy an American car. There is not a major difference in new cars with regards to your carbon footprint, just look for a higher fuel efficiency. 0% 0 Votes
  • Ask him if his calculations are based on the current price of gasoline. If so, try to figure out what the price per gallon of gas would have to be to offset the difference in price. Then, does he think gas will go that high? Something to think about.

In the end, it%26#039;s his money and his decision but I think it%26#039;s great that you%26#039;re concerned. 0% 0 Votes
  • aside from his correct stance, these cars are only ever going to be a temporary and partial solution at best.
he could really save more money by buying a flash pushbike, or hey, even walking, that works too!
seriously, just buy a 4 cylinder, keep it in good tune and only run it when necessary, and wait for the real replacements for internal combustion engines to be developed. 25% 1 Vote
