So global warming is about marketing??? Has anyone else noticed that half of the %26quot;solutions%26quot; to global warming involve purchasing something?

Anywhere from flourescent light bulbs to hybrid cars, a lot of ideas requires $$$$. (P.S. Flourescent lightbulbs contain mercury, which leads to a toxic pollutant when disposed of by the way) (P.S.S. trees do absorb carbon dioxide, but also rease a lot of it when they die and decompose)

I was just asking if anyone else noticed that apparently everyone needs to spend money in order to save the planet from this horrific global warming.

I have come to my own conclusions about global warming, and i dont believe the hype it is getting. i have read many published articles that disagree with the currently accepted impact man has on it. One of the articles was even published in my texbooks for school.

I am all about protecting the environment from toxic waste and sensless pollution, the sad part is resources are being wasted on global warming rather than more relavent things. Things like what to do with expended radioactive materials, or how to convert (or re-use) highly dangerous byproducts from factories (i.e. ricin or sulfur dioxide) into environment friendly substances.

And....if senators and other political figures comment on global warming, it appears to be more of a political stunt than anything to me. Why did global warming become such a pressing concern only after Al Gore (non-scientist) persisted? If it were as major as people claim, then many more eyebrows would have been raised long ago.

To crabby- well i am curious to know how burning coal, a hydrocarbon, releases mercury into the air? Also, if i want to drive a gas hog of a car, that is MY choice.

And.... toyota is seeing record profits, energy efficient appliances are retardedly expensive, green houses are rediculously expensive, and just because something is recyclable does not mean it is harmless.

Well mate, i have no idea why you put apparent key terms in quotes. That might be because i am %26#039;soft in the head%26#039;.

Most important fact to note, trying to solve a problem that doesnt carry the weight of its reputation is NOT progression, it is more like %26#039;retrogressing%26#039; mate.

summarized at:
http://www.ipcc.ch/pdf/assessment-report...

It%26#039;s (mostly) not the sun:

http://solar-center.stanford.edu/sun-on-...

And the first graph above shows that the sun is responsible for about 10% of it. When someone says it%26#039;s the sun they%26#039;re saying that thousands of climatologists are stupid and don%26#039;t look at the solar data. That%26#039;s ridiculous.

Science is quite good about exposing bad science or hoaxes:

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/ATG/polywater...

There%26#039;s a large number of people who agree that it is real and mostly caused by us, who are not liberals, environmentalists, stupid, or conceivably part of a %26quot;conspiracy%26quot;. Just three examples of many:

%26quot;Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich challenged fellow conservatives to stop resisting scientific evidence of global warming%26quot;

%26quot;Our nation has both an obligation and self-interest in facing head-on the serious environmental, economic and national security threat posed by global warming.%26quot;

Senator John McCain, Republican, Arizona

“DuPont believes that action is warranted, not further debate.%26quot;

Charles O. Holliday, Jr., CEO, DuPont

There%26#039;s a lot less controversy about this is the real world than there is on Yahoo answers:

http://www.worldpublicopinion.org/pipa/a...

And vastly less controversy in the scientific community than you might guess from the few skeptics talked about here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scientific_...
http://www.sciencemag.org/cgi/content/fu...

%26quot;There%26#039;s a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know... Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point. You really can%26#039;t find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away.%26quot;

  • You forgot to mention the biggest one - carbon credits and carbon trading. Al Gore is involved in an investment company that stands to make billions in the trading of carbon credits.
  • Or could just spend less money and be more enviromentally friendly, things like turning off appliances when you are not using them, walking instead of taking the car, only buying the things that you actually need.

    How much pollution do you think a really really poor person makes compared to us who are lucky enough to have a more comfortable lifestyle?
