Why are most Global Warming deniers over 50? I watch CNBC and a lot of other news channels commentators and it seems that the older they are, the more they deny GW.
Why is that?
Do you think most of the GW deniers on Yahoo Answers over 50 as well?

  • I`m over that age and don`t deny GW. I just think it`s a phase the earth goes through over a period of time. Over the years the earths orbit does make some minor changes that can affect weather patterns here on earth, along with the suns cycles as it burns and throws it`s magnetic showers (solar flares) out toward the planets. Go to the poles and see the light show, such as the northern lights. That is the magnetic effect shown by the suns rays at certain angles and at certain times. Add to all this the moons magnetic effect on the earths oceans.

Another thing that comes to mind is, the earth quakes around the world could be contributing to global warming by triggering volcanic activity which puts more gasses and dust into the atmosphere. The earthquakes could be from over drilling and excessive removal of crude oil causing a void in the area where the oil comes from. The displacement of this oil is probably not matched to accommodate the void.

Anyway this old fogy believes we have a part in this whole process, but not all of it. Nature has a hand in it too. speculation
  • They are probably wiser.

They have been around long enough to see how the world operates. Politicians will invent ways of taking your hard earned money and scientific organizations will issue statements that help get funding, The public school system has a bias toward liberal agendas and they have been molding minds for some time now. Isn%26#039;t it interesting how they jumped on the %26quot;Inconvenient Truth%26quot; so fast and started showing the movie to the kids so they would go home scared to death about what MIGHT happen in the future if they don%26#039;t do something right now, even though the science is incomplete and even flawed. The parents and grandparents now think they need to save the world for their kids. You can%26#039;t hardly listen to the news without hearing of some disaster or unusual whether that is attributed to global warming. I could go on but, nobody really reads the long answers anyway. I am just under 50 by the way.
  • If there is a case for this assertion, there are several reasons.
Those of us who have been on the planet for a good number of years have the benefit of a longer experience in most things. You cannot get experience, without... well experiencing things. It gives rise to perspective.

We also remember all kinds of weather over the years. We saw many natural disasters, snow in June, 77 degree January days, tornadoes, etc 45 years ago.

We come from a time when factual verifiability was important, (just because it%26#039;s on CNN or the Internet does not make it true, it makes it some ones well published opinion).

I do not deny the possibility of %26quot;GW%26quot; (I%26#039;m 47), I am suspicious of how it is being used as a tool for other purposes, (power, control, etc.) I am also mathematically %26amp; technically savy enough to have valid questions as to how much of the phenomenon is created by human action.

Most of us are just waiting for the facts, and what we get is emotional opinion from both sides.
  • This is the age when people start to become cynical and unbelieving lol. Some people are extreme in their views about global warming and actually think the world is coming to an end, I think this is ludicrous. I do however believe that some changes have occured in the world with temperature and weather patterns but it is only a guess that humans have contributed to this. They can%26#039;t prove anything yet, this is simply an idealogy without adequate evidence. The changes that are occuring could simply be natural changes in the earth%26#039;s climate. The climate has always been changing on the earth. The earth is very strong, even if perhaps we were the causitive factor in the changing climate the world works in perfect harmony and balance. Climate change is simply a symptoms of something more profound. It is a way of rectifying imbalances. Our earth is very good at this and I don%26#039;t think we need to fear climate change at all.
  • I%26#039;m well under 50 and see the tricks of politicians about global warming.

Even stranger are the people that accuse the GW %26quot;deniers%26quot; of being uneducated then turn around and say some superstitious nonsense about fuel, weather, or electricity. Someone asked if the heat from electric power lines has anything to do with global warming and there were a lot of answers supporting it. (wtf ! )
  • I%26#039;m not sure if that%26#039;s true. I have noticed that frequently the %26#039;skeptical%26#039; scientists are quite old. For a long time Reid Bryson was cited by the deniers. They liked to call him %26#039;the father of climatology%26#039; for no good reason. He%26#039;s in his 80s and hasn%26#039;t done any research for decades, and thinks AGW is a bunch of bull. When you%26#039;re out of touch with current research, it%26#039;s not that surprising.

Generally speaking, the older you are the more you%26#039;re set in your ways. Human-caused global warming is a new concept, so older people may have a more difficult time accepting it.

    %26quot;Last time I checked,I heard that a lot of those snarky deniers have been getting violations and suspensions! ha ha!%26quot;

I believe Dana and JS get about as many violations as we do, which is much more than what is necessary.

I don%26#039;t remember a time when one of my responses warranted a violation notice....except that one instance when I called the questioner an idiot, but s/he deserved it.
  • Because they were educated at a time when schools taught students to THINK. Today%26#039;s schools fail to do this almost completely. Todays schools produce sheep who parrot whatever nonsense that is told them and have no concept of methods of logical or scientific proof. Since this degeneration of the educational system started in the early 1970%26#039;s we now have a large percentage of the population that has never encountered an origional thought. This includes an equally large percentage of the scientific community. I recently saw a copy of an 8th grade test from the 1890%26#039;s required for graduation. It contained questions in English grammar and literature, History, Geography and Mathematics. The article that it was attached to claimed that less than 20% of present day high school graduates could pass it. It furthermore claimed that less than 50% of present day college grads with a BA or BS degree could pass it. There were NO true/false questions. There were NO multiple choice questions. It was NOT an open book test. If mankind is goning to continue to progress; the art of thinking in a logical, reasoning manner must be resurrected, preserved and taught to the entire population. Of course this will make the population more difficult for the governments to control, so it%26#039;s unlikely to happen.
