Why do people say that global warming has stopped? People point to 1998 as the %26quot;warmest year%26quot; (which is debateable) and say that warming has stopped. But looking at the data from recent years, isn%26#039;t it clear that 1998 was just an unusually warm blip on a steady warming trend?

BEN O - Flat wrong. It%26#039;s the combined land and ocean data (Land PLUS Ocean), not the difference. It%26#039;s a HYPHEN, not a minus sign.

The wrong interpretation has been posted here by someone who doesn%26#039;t understand the science behind it.

Global warming has never stoped because there is no Global warming never has been, It%26#039;s all just a scam to make millions.

Bob, if you use the wrong graph you can prove anything. That graph shows land ocean differences.

That might be good enough for faithful believers, but some people would regard that as illogical.

Do you have any AGW %26#039;proof%26#039; that uses better logic?

Anyway you can see how realclimate works any upward trending graph will do.

For whatever reason, be it selfishness or fear, many do not want to accept the planet that they know is changing and their lifestyle will have to change along with it. Many refuse to make the personal sacrifice for the good of all.
They look for any little blip on a chart to prove their case, no matter how minor in reality that blip is.

maybe they say global warming has stopped because it NEVER STARTED. Global warming doesn%26#039;t exist. We%26#039;ve had some warm years and some cold ones. Just before the renaissance, Europe suffered a mini ice age. Frankenstein was written during a writing contest during an unusually cold year. Over time, and it%26#039;s been proved, temperatures slowly rise up and down. That%26#039;s just the way it is. Global warming does not exist. But there%26#039;s nothing wrong with turning off the TV during commercials or driving a hybrid to save energy and stuff. Just don%26#039;t think that the world will end if you don%26#039;t. Trust me, by 2010, we%26#039;ll be getting three feet of snow again in the south.

It%26#039;s a cyclical event and there is a warming. The problem is with Mr. Nobel Winner Gore (what a miscarriage of justice)
that it is not man made. Nature is the big contributor.

Gwens is right. Pople look for any reason in the world to convincve themselves global warming is not man made. That would require too much effort on their part.

People are either too lazy to make any change, too scared to see it, or just flat out don%26#039;t give a damn about the planet whether GW is real or not.

Because the people of the world only hear what they want to hear. People are so oblivious to the world surrounding them and it frustrates the sh*t out of me. Really.
