Why do you dought the greenhouse effect? This is something that has been on my mind for a while, and I would appreciate the so-called %26#039;AGW Skeptics%26#039; to expand on it.

Carbon dioxide is one of various greenhouse gases. It traps some of the infared heat released from the earth%26#039;s surface (often by reflection of UV light) and sends it back down to earth, warming the globe.

What is the evidence against this effect? I%26#039;m confused and interested at the same time.

Jamie - because the world isn%26#039;t as easy as that. Only government can enforce changes, and if people don%26#039;t like them, the government is voted out. Banning it, although good for environment, would end up leading to worldwide chaos. The only solution is to gradually phase it out.

The voice of reason, why is anthropogenic CO2 different from atmopsheric CO2? Increasing CO2 levels isn%26#039;t hypothesised. By the way ,do not judge me on spelling. A mistake in spelling has nothing to do with discussion on scientific topics.

Heretic, thanks for the info. I already know some information about the effect of clouds, but yeah it is very complex. I still dont see the link between CO2 levels and cloud cover though. It does slow or reverse warming once it has began and there is more water vapour, but I still don%26#039;t see why CO2 doesn%26#039;t cause an initial increase in temperature, when it is a greenhouse gas.

I%26#039;m not denying the effect of Supervolcanoes. Hell, if greenstone or toba errupt the planet will have major problems. Not just global cooling, but the coating of food + water supplies, and vast areas aside with ash. However, you can%26#039;t predict when supervolcanoes occur. You just have to be ready for them when they come. You cant say %26quot;supervolcanoes will cause cooling so it%26#039;ll balance out%26quot;, but i doubt anyone is that dumb.

It is depressing that around half of the people here worry more about spelling than the world%26#039;s climate. If you want to be grammatically correct, Lolanda, I%26#039;m a single person, hence the common noun %26quot;Person%26quot; should be used instead the plural %26quot;People%26quot;. Unless you%26#039;re referring to multiple people, in which case you%26#039;re generalising and making a false assumption that can be applied to either side.

catso - If i didnt want to hear the other side, i wouldn%26#039;t be asking the question. I welcome opposition to my current thinking because its the most beneficial way to expand your own knowledge. I%26#039;m just confused at why carbon dioxide seems to have no effect on temperature.

Also, CO2 has a diminishing effect on weather as more is added. So for every particle added to the atmosphere, the effect will gradually approach not net warming. On page 22 of this link, there is a graph showing how little additional CO2 effects the temp. Of course, I never hear AGW crazies mention this. They make it seem that as more CO2 is added, the temp will go up and up.

In summary, there is no %26quot;doubting%26quot; the greenhouse effect. With out it, the earth would be uninhabitable as the extreme cold and heat would bake the planet. But to say our CO2 emissions will kill the world is a ludicrous statement with zero scientific backing.

So, the increasing of the temperature causes the Forest burning which releases more carbon dioxide. By the way, the melting of the icebag on the Northpole and Southpole rising the sea-level, and a lot of Island would be slowly disappear from the Map... it also bring the death to us...
