Any experience with a %26quot;cool roof%26quot;? Hello,
We%26#039;re looking to replace our wood shingle roof with an environmentally friendly alternative. We live in Southern California and have started reading about %26quot;cool roofs%26quot;. They look like regular asphalt shingles but have a sparkly component that is supposed to reflect heat, keeping the home cool. Also, their color is lighter than standard shingles, reducing the heat that is reflected back, heat that possibly contributes to global warming.

Does anyone have a cool roof or have you heard anything about them?

Any heat your asphalt shengled roof (micro-climate) is putting off has nothing to do with global warming (macro-climate). Where a cool roof would come in handy is to the overall coolness (energy savings) of your home. But your better off putting on a white colored metal roof that has extra insulation under it. 100% 1 Vote

    want to go one better?

insulate it properly...by that I don%26#039;t mean add more insulation but do it smartly. There are products out there that go on the trusses of your roof that help reflect the heat back even more. Lighter shingles should be a must EVERYWHERE in my small book.

I am not a salesmen I am a ZEDesigner and I would love to share ideas with you that will help you achieve a more efficient goal than just replacing the shingles.
