Can you recycle peanut butter containers? We do not have mandatory recycling in our town -- we have to bring them to igloos througout the center, and on the plastic container bill -- they tell you ony small neck bottles. 50% 2 Votes 25% 1 Vote
  • Although I%26#039;m sure you%26#039;re referring to recycling them by use of a local program, I wanted to offer the suggestion of finding a use for them in your home.

We clean and reuse peanut butter jars in our storage/tool shed.

If you%26#039;re interested in doing this, here%26#039;s what we do:

Clean the jars/lids and dry them thoroughly.
Screw the lids to the bottom of a wooden shelf in your building. (The top of the lid should be attached to the bottom of the shelf.)

Now screw the jar onto the lid and you have perfectly functional storage for thumb tacks, nails, screws, and odd little pieces that manage to get lost easily.

No matter how you decide to recycle, I thank you for helping to provide a better Earth for our children. :-) 0% 0 Votes

  • I have found that the ones with red lids make great hummingbird feeders. I wash the jar and lid thoroughly and drill holes in the lid (approx. 1/4 inch diameter). In a separate container, mix a solution of one part granular sugar and three to four parts very hot water, then let it cool. There is no need to add food coloring, but it%26#039;s pretty. Then I set it out on the deck railing for birdwatching all summer long! It%26#039;s important to keep the jar filled so that the birds can reach the liquid with their beeks. 0% 0 Votes
  • Why not take them to the health food shop and re-fill them with fresh ground peanut butter or any other nut that they crush. 0% 0 Votes
