Can you recycle styrofoam to-go boxes? Like the ones from the restaurants. Thanks.

Best Answer

It depends on your local recycle company. Anything that has the recycle symbol on it is good. Usually if the item has %26quot;been in contact with food%26quot; then they won%26#039;t take it- so I either rinse it or just tear off the top part of the box to recycle.

  • styrofoam on many cases CANNOT be recycled i learned this from a green expert .... that have a chemical compound in them when broken down is the same thing in nail polish remover and is toxic so there are places tha are trying to creater eco-friendly containers instead your best bet is to carry your own plastic reuseable container (also learned that from a green expert) when eating out and ask them to put your food in that instaed it will help cut down waste for you and the restaurant
  • Go to www.earth911.org, type in what you want to recycle and your zip they will give you a list of recycle centers in your area that will take that item.

Ask your favorite eating places to replace styrofoam with compostable paper or plant starch containers.
  • Depends where you live. Major cities can recycle foam.
  • yes because if u recycle styrofoam cups then yea ok good question
  • Our local recycling center won%26#039;t take them. I guess it depends on where you live.
