Conserving energy- surge protector question? I have most of the stuff in my room (laptop, cell charger, printer) hooked up to one power strip or surge protector. I want to conserve more energy, and I know these devices suck energy out even when not in use or in sleep mode. When I leave for the day/go to bed and want to turn it off, do I have to unplug the power strip from the wall or do I only need to switch it off? Thanks!

Just switching it off should do the trick... I%26#039;ve taken the surge protector a step further and I use one for all our cell phone chargers, i pod, etc... I also use one for all our stereo componets, television/gaming systems so when we leave or go to bed I just flick off the switches. It helps quite a bit as well... *Also, using one major appliance at a time helps a TON ! Using the washer and dryer but, NOT at the same time. It does however take a bit of getting used to but, it saves roughly half on the electric bill NOT running major appliances at the same time... I run my dishwasher only when full- on time delay at night when we%26#039;re NOT using hot water. It runs around 3 or 4 am ! Good luck 60% 3 Votes

  • I believe just turning the switch off on the power strip will do the trick. Turning one protector of saves on average 12$ per year. 0% 0 Votes
