Does anyone know how to safely dispose of a scratched Teflon frying pan? Preferably to recycle it, but I%26#039;m not sure if this is possible. I WON%26#039;T donate it, as it%26#039;s scratched, and I don%26#039;t want to simply toss it! All depends on your relationship with your husband. You can keep frying his eggs with it or just toss it in the scrap metal section of your recycle center. Report Abuse

  • Throw it in the trash. Personally, I would just keep using it.
  • you have probabaly ate some of the particles from it i dont think there good for you i dont know if the scrap people will take it
  • Is it Cast Iron / steel? or Aluminum ?
All of these can be recycled at Scrap yards. While your City %26quot;curbside%26quot; recyclers may not take it, a metal scrap yard will. They shred the metal and melt it down. All impurities (including the Teflon) come the the surface of the molten metal. This %26quot;sludge%26quot; is (unfortunately) land filled. The good news, is that from a four pound pan, less than an ounce is actually waste. P.S. - Aluminum pans have value, and a scrap yard may come get it. B.S. in Electrical Engineering

  • is it a cast Iron pan if so you can just get it grit blasted %26amp; still use it Cast iron is naturally nonestick there are things you can do to help
  • The quickest way to degrade Teflon is to heat it. DuPont claims publicly that its non-stick coatings are stable up to 600¡ Fahrenheit, a temperature which the company says is well above that reached in everyday cooking.

Or you can take it to a household hazardous waste program(HHW)
