as simple as turning things off stand-by and turning off lights when not in a room
and please, no people telling me to not bother to save energy.

Solar panels, recycling, turning off lights/electronics/water when not in use, walking/riding a bicycle, not having electronics plugged in when not in use (they still use electricity), motion censor outdoor lights, etcOther Answers (4)

Probably LED lighting, they use less energy than even compact fluorescent bulbs and last even longer and no toxic chemicals.
You should still turn them off when not in the room though. -
Remove street lights and plant a tree in the hole.

Try not to run the HVAC system as much as possible. When you must, keep it at 79° or above on the AC and 64° or below when using the heat.
