Have your parents show you the hydro bill. Multiply the number of kilowatt-hours used by 3,600,000 and you will have the total energy in joules.

Count how many lights you are using and how many watts they are.
A 100w light bulb will use 100 watt hours for every hour it is lit.
Ten 100w lightbulbs burning for one hour will use 1 kilowatt hour of electricity.
1000 watts = 1 kilowatt.
1000 kilowatts = 1 megawatt.
Hope this helps, you should be able to calculate the usage using these values in your equation.
