You can%26#039;t.
The whole %26quot;green%26quot; thing is mostly a farce.
If you exist, you are using natural resources up, altering your environment, etc., etc.,
You eat, wear clothes, drive, live and work in buildings made from either cutting down trees, digging up rock to make cement, brick, etc., or mined to make steel, etc.
Your drink water because someone built a dam, carved up the earth for aqueducts and pipelines to get it to you.
Everything you own, use, eat, etc., exists because of oil - because EVERYTHING is either MADE, or TRANSPORTED to you, by machines, machines that run on petroleum products.
And even those that don%26#039;t (solar panels, windmills, hybrid cars) are STILL all manufactured and transported by (you guessed it) machines that run on petroleum products.
Everything about the lifestyle we enjoy, (not just gas in our cars) is because of oil.
So, to answer your question, even if you go into the woods and live in a cave, use NO commercial products whatsoever, you are STILL going to alter your environment in some way, because you will be:
1. EATING (therefore you will need either plants or animals or both to eat).
2. EXCRETING (therefore potentially polluting the environment for plant and animal life around you).
3. SHELTER (you will have to cut down trees, dig up rocks, mud, clay or whatever to build a shelter.)
So, my dear, as you can see, all this %26quot;green living%26quot; is just another giant marketing campaign to sell %26#039;green%26#039; and %26#039;natural%26#039; products, which are manufactured and distributed to you in EXACTLY the same manner (with machines that run on petroleum products) as the %26#039;non-green%26#039; or %26#039;non-natural%26#039; products.
Define %26#039;natural%26#039; or %26#039;non-natural%26#039; anyway.
Think about it - there%26#039;s no such thing as something being %26#039;not-natural%26#039;.
And the clencher is, the process of recycling is just another INDUSTRIAL PROCESS:
They use machines (that run on petroleum products) to shred, sort, grind, transport, etc.
Recent studies have shown that with the exception of aluminum cans, ALL OTHER RECYCLING actually uses more natural resources and energy than it displaces.
