  • Only the lumber item would possibly be valid. It could be valid, green thinking if we have too much combustible stock on the forest now, at risk of forest fires. This is not an unusual situation.

    Harvesting that combustible crop and so reducing the risk of forest fire also leaves room for more younger trees to be growing. It can improve water usage, by avoiding overcrowding. When trees are overcrowded and short on water, they may be producing very little new wood, the photosynthetic process almost shut down from lack of water. Reducing the competition for water can increase uptake of CO2 and production of oxygen.

    Now increasing harvest of lumber when the trees are young and growing vigorously, have lots of water and plant nutrients... that would not be a Green solution, nor would it be profitable silvaculture.
