Plastics take around 100000 years to decompose..........During this decomposition %26amp; breaking of polymers they emit dioxin gas which is quiet poisoneous for the soil %26amp; determinant to health.....
but the decomposition of plastics can be hastened by application of temperature %26amp; pressure.
But now researchers are researching for molecule that are environment-freindly %26amp; are easily biodegradable.........

If you just bury a plastic bottle in the ground it would probably take a very long time. But done right, as in actually composting where methane is present, I imagine it could be decomposed in a speedy manner.

It takes 20 years for a plastic bag to decompose and 250 years for a plastic cup to decompose.
