If you are an environmentaly concerned person, how many children do you plan to have? Also wondering what country you live in?

About how old are you? (teen, 20%26#039;s, 30%26#039;s, 40%26#039;s, 50%26#039;s, ect)

Children you plan to have, or how many you have, if you are done having children?

I am completely facinated by people like nelly189, who believe producing one child for each parent is neutral, or zero population growth.

Of course this is NOT the case....it IS an increase in the worlds human population. Humans are not shrews, who live only a few months and then die. We are a very long lived species. Human parents survive the majority of their child%26#039;s life. So every child they produce is of course an increase in the number of humans demanding the earth%26#039;s resources.

I wonder, of the three children Nelly189 has produced, how many of the parents are still living, and how many sets of the grandparents are still living?

People %26quot;get it%26quot; when I talk about how my goat herd increases, but they refuse to %26quot;get it%26quot; when it%26#039;s applied to their own human family.

How is it that people can see how livestock herds increase in number by breeding, when the parents, granparents, aunts, uncles, and all other relatives are still alive....but are completely unable to see

to see how they are increasing the human herd?

I am very frustrated with people who think as Nelly 189 does. We humans do not die the moment our offspring hit puberty. We live on for another 50 years or so, sucking up more resources.

I laughed when I read Bella%26#039;s responce. She is absolutely correct that the ONLY sure fire way to prevent pregnancy is to abstaine from having sex. I worked in the medical field for years. I%26#039;m the %26quot;lucky%26quot; person who got to call a patient and tell her I%26#039;m sorry we cannot put you on that medication, your pregnancy test has come back possitive....she%26#039;d had her tubes tied EIGHT YEARS PRIOR!!!! That patient blew a gasket to say the least!

Educating women also helps lower the birth rate. The more highly educated a woman is, the fewer children she will produce. Those fewer children born to those better educated women are usually themselves better educated, and also produce fewer children. Win-win situation.

In answer to Peaches question, my husband and I have no children. I%26#039;m in my 40%26#039;s. We will probably adopt at some point.

On my side of the family, from both of my parents, there has been a sharp drop in the numbers of children produced. My maternal Great Grandmother had 8 children. I am the sole Great Granchild. There are no surviving aunts, uncles, cousins, ect. The family line ends with me. It%26#039;s quiet remarkable, concidering my family line is very long lived, with my Great Granparents living into their 80%26#039;s. I am also the sole person on my father%26#039;s side of the family. Nobody had any children.

My husband%26#039;s side of the family breed like bunnies (and are also extremely long lived).

No matter how many children each person who answered this question produces though, I can only hope they truely teach their children to live in earth friendly ways.

I know a few of the permaculture/farmer children some of the folks on here have are going to have an excelent start.

  • I%26#039;m 23 years old and I have one child. My plans for more children aren%26#039;t really up for discussion as of yet. I teach my daughter the basics (she%26#039;s 3 years old) of taking care of our environment. We recycle, walk where we can (or bike), plant flowers and our own veggies and make sure to conserve as much as we can. I think that it doesn%26#039;t matter how many children you have as long as you teach them how to respect and care for the earth we live on.
