Is it possible to place wind turbines on gov.owned landin NC specifically within the Nantahala national forest Some of the ridges in the forest have potential for generating wind electricity. This could benefit the economic and environmental sustainability of Clay county as the majority of the people work outside the county, and most goods and services also must be brought from the outside. However, one challenge to both wind power and a more locally based economy is that the majority of the land in the county is owned by the federal government.

Even though putting windmills in a national forest is far from ideal, a few acres for a windmill is better than getting your energy from Mountain Top Removal mining.

Probably not. National forests are to preserve nature, not exploit it. Even a windmill is exploiting nature. 100% 3 Votes

  • Albeit Possible it is not feasable because of the vast area that they would need to produce, and assemble this wind farm energy . Also in most Federal lands the power cables must be underground . 0% 0 Votes
