All ceiling fans have a different setting for summer and winter, in the summer the fan should be set for down draft, while in the winter it should be set for up draft.the average ceiling fan only uses about 3 cents of energy a day, and will circulate the air when no one is in the room and keep the room comfortable. jcms 100% 3 Votes

Only run the fan when in the room. All a fan does is move the air it doesnt actually cool the air. Some fans can work to move air in another room but that is very rare that it will be much work. Remember that a fan also generates heat so if you are wanting to cool the house dont add extra heat in other rooms that you are not in. If you want to cool the house look to turn off non essintial things in the house, computers not in use, appliances with lights, change lightbulbs from incadesent to halagen. I have seen a savings in my house after that one....and a reduction in heat.

I hear that you save money by turning off the A/C (or setting it very high) while away from home, even though it uses a lot of energy to cool the room down once you come back - it still saves 30-40% more. However in saying this, you need to understand the conditions in the room - in relation to dampness so that you don%26#039;t get mold - what I%26#039;m saying is that it depends where you live. No you are wasting energy. First you are pushing warm air down when no one lives and the fan generates heat. It is a lose lose situation.
