Off grid community in Ontario? We are looking for families that would be interested in leaving suburban life and moving back to the country side. The goal is to build a self sufficient community using renewable energy sources such as solar and wind. As well as faming our own food as much as possible. • I would not agree that the community has to be Omish although working together as a community is best exemplified by these types of groups.
  
  You can live off the grid in a sustainable, modern fashion. I think an off grid community would be something very different in that the community is based solely around conscious living and learning by experience... not so strict as to instill separateness but promote the oneness that is required to lead us to many solutions.
  
  I believe this type of action is benefitial to the global community, it should not be limited or labelled. It is a great idea, one in which I have spent much time and effort at.
  
  It is a solution for poverty, affordable housing, environmental crisis, sustainable living, job creation, and greed. I am sure there are more. These are the solutions my vision is based upon.

• Interesting idea however it%26#039;s not new. It called a commune and has been proven time and time again it never quite works. One of the very first %26#039;self-sustaining%26#039; communities was in British Columbia in the late 1890%26#039;s. It was established on Vancouver Island and was called %26quot;Utopia%26quot;.
