One of my energy efficient lightbulbs flickers intermittently after it%26#039;s been switched off - is this normal? I haven%26#039;t noticed it happen with any other low energy bulbs. It is a dim flash every 30 seconds or so, it doesn%26#039;t continue to flash for hours. It%26#039;s been suggested to me that it%26#039;s the bulb dispersing the energy build up..... sounds like tosh to me!!! Any ideas ?

Best Answer

try unscrew it then rescrew and if that doesn%26#039;t try swaping bulbs

  • Replace it.
  • It sometimes happens, but it%26#039;s not supposed to. All fluorescent lamps - tubes and %26quot;energy efficient%26quot; bulbs - need a few thousand volts to turn them on and a much lower voltage to keep them going. This comes from a bit of electronics that comes separately in a tube fitting but is built into an energy efficient bulb. Yours has a leaky capacitor which means it takes longer to come on and doesn%26#039;t quite turn off for a few minutes. Don%26#039;t worry about it - it%26#039;ll wear out in about 5 years%26#039; time.
  • I think that you may have a ghost.
    Spooooky !
  • probably ghost%26#039;s (as seen on TV)
  • Faulty switch or faulty capacitor in light fitting
  • i had this, it was the switch, when i took it off there was a cabon trail across the contacts, this means that power was leaking through when the switch was off... change the switch, worked for me.
