I think chemists call it %26quot;fusion%26quot;, and there is a %26quot;heat of fusion%26quot;, and it is exothermic. You have to take heat out of the water to make it freeze. Conversely, one adds heat to ice to make it thaw, even though the temperature does not change much (not unlike a planet I know)

when a liquid changes into ice(that is-it freezes)....it is a physical,exothermic change......the process is called freezing or solidification.it can be done by altering the temperature or even pressure.
