The status of that country will change from agricultural to industrial.The livelihood will depend on the type of industry the community/society provides. Take Hongkong for example it was developed under the british colony, it started from a fishing port, trading port and look what it is now.

A country has to be thriving to give up its agricultural status . Factory and office creats jobs (it%26#039;s the mine sites here in W . Aus) .Economy will boom , more people will move there, they have to build more houses.
Ultimately we cannot eat money !
Please note Hong Kong was never a country .
