Where can I buy 50-250 eco-friendly shopping bags for wholesale prices? I%26#039;m having a %26quot;Go Green%26quot; garage sale. I%26#039;m wanting to go with a %26quot;Go Green%26quot; focus for my next garage sale for people to reuse and recycle unwanted items. I want to be able to hand out cloth, eco-friendly shopping bags to people who decide to shop at this sale. A percentage will go to an Earth-friendly charity in my area. I also would like ideas on where I can get free brochures on how people can reduce, reuse, and recycle just about anything...where could I get brochures as well? Please only serious answers...I really feel a calling to do this and bring awareness to my %26quot;wasteful%26quot; community. Thanks!

  • well go to VONS OR ALBERTSONS
  • The traditional string bag of Papua New Guinea is eminently suited to this. It is very small when not in use, incredibly strong and stretches to many times its relaxed size. Big ones here are used for carrying 20-30kg of veg or a sleeping baby, smaller ones for shopping or as handbags (The kind that can always fit just one more item.) Traditionally made of bark fibre (still done) but increasingly made of wool or synthetics. Downside they are not cheap! They last a very long time and look really cool though. typically US$10-15 each for a nice medium size one. All hand made, even the fibres are hand twisted (no matter what kind). Support indiginous cultures and in particular women. Buy a real string bag! (never seen a man make these except as an experiment)
  • First, decide what your priorities are. If you really need to make some money from this sale, you probably shouldn%26#039;t be spending any on bags.

Instead, consider the second R, %26quot;Reuse%26quot;. You could collect paper grocery bags from your neighbors and friends. Put your flyers in there, and if you want, you can tape a note on the outside reminding people to recycle the paper bag after they%26#039;re finished with it. You could print up a cute note with the different ways they could recycle or re-use it. (Annie%26#039;s pasta boxes have suggestions like this, on how to re-use the box as a bookmark, etc. after you eat the pasta.)

I commend your efforts, but remember to take care of yourself, too. If your garage sale costs you money, you might end up feeling discouraged, and we don%26#039;t want that. Just consider all the alternatives before purchasing bags. (Remember, it does cost energy and resources to make re-usable cloth bags too.)
