Michigan has this - but I think for any state that does the redemption, the cans need to be specially marked with the refund state and amount. This stamping or printing indicates the deposit was paid on the can or bottle, and that it is eligible for the refund. I don%26#039;t believe items without this marking can be redeemed.

I%26#039;m from MA and I know all the New England states except New Hampshire have redemption centers. But you can%26#039;t get the 5 cents unless a deposit was made when you bought it. In other words I can%26#039;t buy soda in Arkansas and return the can for the 5 cents in Massachusetts. There%26#039;s something in the bar code to prevent that from happening. Other wise some where there will be a cash shortage on returns.

i know oregon does at pretty much every super market. you just take the cans in and feed them into the machines yourself and get $.05/can. i%26#039;m in las vegas now and i think they do it differently here..i%26#039;m not sure how? and in california, you take it to a plant where they pay you by the pound.
