Why hasn%26#039;t this been explored further? ? Seriously. Opposites attract. You could start simply with the alternator. Put a bunch of magnets on a cylinder, and then put ones with a different charge on the outside. It will spin forever (well at least 200 years) generating energy. In turn you never need to replace your battery. You really don%26#039;t even need your batter.

Now take that to another level. You could power a generator for your home. You could even get super powerful magnets to crank the pistons. I don%26#039;t know how you would regulate it, but I%26#039;m guessing it would be as simple as moving the magnets closer together or further apart.

Is this idea being explored?

Also...I tried it with my nephews science fair and we got a light bulb to glow. It was simply a 6%26quot;x6%26quot; contraption connected to a crank motor.

I recently posted this somewhere else and everyone said things along the lines of %26quot;there is no free energy%26quot; and %26quot;get your head out of the clouds hippy%26quot;. Why do people take so much offense at progressive thinking?

Oops. Yeah, essentially. I posted this in the car section and it was geared towards that in the title.

Yes, just magnets attached to a cylinder. Ours was styraphome (easy to get the magnets to stay. There was another one made of wood and styraphone on the outside. the magnets faced each other and obviously dont go together. We used about 10 or so small magnets on each side. It would spin all day if we didn%26#039;t put a stopper in it.

I don%26#039;t know enough about magnets to really comment on this; good thinking on your part although I remain sceptical:

1) Conservation of energy! There has to be a draw down of the magnetic field strength causing the magnets to demagnetise faster than that 200 years or something like that

2) It seems obvious enough that someone must have thought about it (especially as we have essentially the same thing in linear motors except that they use electric pulses to generate temporary magnetic fields instead of using permanent magnets) but, you never know... quite a few %26#039;obvious%26#039; things are only thought that way in hindsight!

3) Even if workable, would it be practical? You%26#039;d have to use naturally magnetised rock (artificially magnets would use up more power in the magnetising process) and is there a large enough supply?

If I had to bet, I%26#039;d bet against it...
BUT
A double-A+ plus for some nice thinking and innovation; I love it!

  • magnets are not sources of energy. They can be a transfer medium or even a battery, but you can not remove energy from them without recharging or demagnetizing the magnets.

    In your case, the magnetic field will go away and the unit will stop dead. If you put a coil around the magnet and regenerate the field it will start moving.

    Sorry, all the laws of physics work here. Look up degaussing of huge ships, you can%26#039;t even use the earth as you magnet to run a motor..

  • Let me tell what i can understand from your question..

    All we need are
    - a non magnetic cylinder which can be rotated on its axis.
    Its axis is connected to a shaft to get output
    its axis is fixed horizontal

    -two magnets
    one of them in cylindrical shape (with its two circular faces being north and south poles)

    we keep the cylindrical magnet inside the nonmagnetic cylinder.

    then we bring the other magnet close to it so that it attracts or repels the one inside keeping the shaft in rotation forever.

    Is that what you mean??
